2021 AFCON: Ghana skipper Andre Ayew misses training ahead of second group game

Published on: 12 January 2022

Ghana captain Andre Ayew is absent at the team’s second training after their opening group game defeat to Morocco last Monday in Yaoundé.

Ayew suffered a head injury after crashing with a Morocco defender in the latter stages of the game. He had six stitches following the injury.

The Al Sadd star was part of Tuesday's recovery training at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo Annexe but has been excluded from Wednesday's training.

Team doctor assured reporters after yesterday's training session that Ayew will be available for the second group game despite the injury scare.

Black Stars will take on Gabon at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé on Friday 14 January 2022 in the next round.

Ghana will need a win against the Panthers to rebound from the opening day loss to Morocco so as to rekindle the hopes of advancing to the next stage of the tournament.
