Hosts Cameroon produced an incredible comeback from three goals down before beating Burkina Faso on penalties in the third-place play-off at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Only 48 hours after their crushing defeat on penalties against Egypt in their semi-final, this time Cameroon came through a shootout to secure the bronze medal.

Burkina Faso went in front on 24 minutes when both full-backs combined as Issa Kabore crossed for Steeve Yago to fire home at the back post.

It was 2-0 on the stroke of half-time following a horrible moment for Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Kabore was involved again as he got the byline on the right and Onana made a complete mess of his cross and spilled the ball into his own net.

Cameroon brought on Vincent Aboubakar at half-time but Burkina Faso went further ahead on 49 minutes when Dango Ouattara head home a third goal.

The game look finished at that point but Cameroon mounted a stirring comeback with three goals to force penalties.

First, Stephane Bahoken pulled one back late and then Aboubakar scored twice in three minutes late on in an incredible finale.

Burkina Faso goalkeeper Farid Ouedraogo left the field on a stretcher following a collision with Aboubakar in the third goal and he was replaced by third-choice Aboubacar Sawadogo.

In scoring twice, Aboubakar secured the golden boot.

Blati Toure missed the decisive penalty in the shootout when his penalty was saved by Onana.
