2021 Africa Cup of Nations: Huge boost for Gabon as Aubamayeng trains ahead of Ghana game

Published on: 13 January 2022

Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng will be available for the second group C clash against Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday.

The Arsenal star missed the opening match against Comoros Island after testing positive for COVID-19 following his arrival in Cameroon.

However, he trained with the team on Wednesday and looks set for the Ghana game.

In a post on his Instagram story, the striker confirmed his availability and that is not good news for the Black Stars as they seek to recover from the defeat to Morocco.

Without Aubamayeng, the Panthers won their match against Comoros on Monday and his return further strengthens the team. Teammate Mario Lemina is also expected to be in the squad for the match on Friday.

The Black Stars were beaten by Morocco 1-0 in the group C opener and need a win against Gabon to enhance any chance of progressing to the next stage.

After the Gabon game, Ghana will play Comoros Island on Tuesday.
