Our European Football Expert Herbert Boakye Yiadom brings you a list of Ghanaian players who will be featuring in the English Premier League this season for their respective club. 

The league kicks off today with the game between Crystal Palace and Arsenal at the Selhurst Park in London.

The opening game of the season between Arsenal and Crystal Palace will have some Ghanaian interest as the two teams battle it out for the points. Also with the World Cup coming up in November in Qatar, these players will be eyeing a place in the Black Stars squad.

 

  1. Thomas Partey – Arsenal

Thomas Partey will be a key player for Arsenal this season should he remain fit. The Ghana international showed his quality and class for Mikel Arteta’s side before injury ruled him out during the latter part of the 2021/22 season. Arsenal missed out on top four due to Thomas Partey’s absence according to some fans. The deputy Black Stars midfielder will be very influential for The Gunners this season should they aim for Champions League qualification or even the league title.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder is among the key players for the Black Stars ahead of the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

Arsenal open their campaign against Crystal Palace later today.

 

  1. Jordan Ayew- Crystal Palace
Jordan Ayew
Jordan Ayew had a one-year contract extension in his contract activated this summer following his impressive performance for Patrick Vieira’s side.

The 30-year-old made 31 appearances, scoring three goals and three assists last season for Palace.

Jordan Ayew has proven to be team player for the London-based club under Coach Patrick Vieria. The French coach has extolled the qualities and abilities of the Ghana international thus the decision to keep him in the squad for another year.

Jordan Ayew will be making his fourth season for Crystal Palace in this campaign. He has scored 14 goals throughout his stay with Crystal Palace in the English Premier League. Jordan Ayew will also be looking forward to the 2022 World Cup with the Black Stars.

Crystal Palace will be in action against Arsenal at the Selhurst Park later today.

 

  1. Jeffrey Schlupp – Crystal Palace

The 2016 Premier League champion with Leicester City will be looking forward to another campaign at the Selhurst Park.

The 29-year-old made 32 appearances for Palace last season, scoring four goals and registering one assist. Schlupp with his versatility will definitely get more game time under manager Patrick Vieria. Schlupp has been out of the Black Stars team for some time after picking up an injury in his last game at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. According to reports, he is one of the players being monitored by the Black Stars technical team ahead of the World Cup.

 

  1. Tariq Lamptey- Brighton

Most Ghanaians will be watching how their new right-back will perform this season under Coach Graham Potter after switching his nationality to represent Ghana.

Lamptey has been brilliant for Brighton since joining the club from Chelsea three seasons ago.

The 21-year-old last season made 30 appearances for the club and registered two assists despite coming back from an injury.

Lamptey will be knocking on the doors of the Black Stars with his performance ahead of the World Cup.

Brighton open their campaign against Manchester United on Sunday August 7, 2022 at Old Trafford.

 

  1. Daniel Amartey- Leicester City

Ghana defender Daniel Amartey will be entering into his seventh season with Leceister City as the Premier League kicks off today. Amartey joined Leicester City in the 2015/16 season from Copenhagen and won the Premier League title in his first season. Amartey is considered a squad player according to some pundits and has played his role well under Manager Brendan Rogers.

Last season he featured in 28 games for The foxes. Daniel Amartey’s first game of the season could be against Brentford if he gets selected for the game. He was vital to Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign.

 

  1. Mohammed Salisu- Southampton

Mohammed Salisu proved to be one of the best center-backs in the English Premier League last season for Southampton. The former Real Valladolid defender made 34 appearances for Southampton as they finished 15th on the league table.

Salisu after a long pursuit by the Ghana Football Association officials has decided to be available for selection for the Black Stars. With the World Cup looming, the center-back will be hoping to impress the technical team with his performances at club level. Salisu has shown his quality and his addition to the Black Stars will help strengthen the Ghana team ahead of the World Cup.

Southampton play their first game of the season against Tottenham.
