Ghana became the first African country to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday by toppling rivals Nigeria on the away-goals rule.

The Black Stars drew 1-1 with the Super Eagles in Abuja and advanced 2-1 on aggregate after the first leg ended 0-0.

Arsenal star Thomas Partey snatched the opener with a strike from outside the box on ten minutes.

But Nigeria equalized after 22 minutes from the spot courtesy William Troost-Ekong.

They were joined by Senegal, the reigning African champions, who beat Egypt on penalties after a 1-0 win tied to score 1-1.

Tunisia qualified without even having to score against Mali in the playoffs.

An own goal from defender Moussa Sissako in the first leg in Bamako (1-0) was all what they needed to reach their sixth World Cup after settling for a scoreless draw at home on Tuesday.

Cameroon sealed their place in the World Cup in dramatic fashion, scoring four minutes into the extra time's stoppage time to condemn Algeria to a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in Blida and advance on the away goal rule following a 2-2 aggregate draw.

In Rabat, Morocco hammered DR Congo 4-1 to seal an easy passage to the World Cup after their 1-1 away draw on Friday.

Azzedine Ounahi opened the scoring in the 21st minute before a brace from Tarik Tissoudali either side of the interval put Morocco in command.

Achraf Hakimi completed the rout on 69 minutes, with Ben Malango scoring a consolation for DR Congo eight minutes later.

The Atlas Lions will now play at their sixth World Cup.
