2022 World Cup: Ex-Germany U19 captain Patric Pfeiffer snubbed by Ghana despite switching nationality

Published on: 06 September 2022

Patric Pfeiffer did not make the squad for the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua despite recently committing to represent West Africans.

Pfeiffer, who was born in Germany and has captained Germany U19, said he will play for Ghana in June and expected to be called up for the crucial pre-World Cup friendlies this month.

However, the 23-year-old was not named to the 29-man squad announced on Tuesday, which is bad news for the central defender because it may jeopardize his chances of making the World Cup final squad.

The SV Darmstadt 98 player is not among the ten defenders in the squad, an indication that he has yet to convince Ghana coach Otto Addo.

Pfeiffer has made five appearances this season in Germany's second-tier league and scored one goal.

Ghana will play Brazil at Stade Oceane in Le Harve, France on Friday, September 23, 2022, before facing Nicaragua at Estadio Francisco Artes Carrasco in Lorca, Spain on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

Both games are part of the team's preparations for the World Cup, which begins on November 20.

Ghana will face Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay in the group stage.
