2022 World Cup qualifiers: Former Ghana goalkeeper Damba criticises Black Stars after Ethiopia draw

Published on: 13 November 2021

Former Ghana goalkeeper Abubakari Damba criticised Black Stars players and coach Milovan Rajevac following the 1-1 draw with Ethiopia.

Damba said the team's game plan and attitude was poor which shouldn't have been the case because it was a game the Black Stars needed to win.

Captain Andre Ayew led by example, scoring a brilliant free-kick on 22 minutes but what ensued afterwards was Ethiopia dominating and creating numerous opportunities, and converted one in the 72nd minute to earn a deserved point.

"We were better in the first half and I was expecting that we improve on that in the second half but we failed to keep our composure," he said on GTV Sports Plus.

"We played poorly in the second half and it was shocking.

"Our attitude and game plan was poor and I think we were lucky not have to concede more goals because we lost concentration at some point.

"This is not good enough if you want to qualify for a tournament and I am expecting a better performance on Sunday against South Africa," he added.

The draw and South Africa's 1-0 win over Zimbabwe means Ghana need any kind of win against Bafana to win the group.
