2022 World Cup qualifiers: Ghana coach Rajevac removes Jamie Lawrence as fitness trainer

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has removed former Jamaica international player and star trainer Jamie Lawrence as the Black Stars fitness coach.

Lawrence, who is famed globally for training top stars in the English Premier League and Europe revealed the decision to leave the post.

The former Jamaican international, 50, has not been seen with the Black Stars since Rajevac returned for his second stint as the Ghana coach.

It is not clear why he left his job as Black Stars fitness trainer but it is suspected that Rajevac wanted a slimmer backroom staff as he already has two assistant coaches.

Lawrence joined the Black Stars during Charles Kwabla Akonnor’s tenure as head coach.

He has announced his exit from the Black Stars as physical trainer after his absence raised question about the fitness of the players of the Ghana national team after they were held by a fitter Ethiopia squad.

“Unfortunately my time working for the black stars has come to a end . I enjoyed every minute of working with the staff and players and I’m wishing you all the success in the upcoming games," Lawrence wrote.

Lawrence worked as a physical trainer for the Black Stars in 2015 and 2017 under former coach Avram Grant where he guided and helped the team to reach the final of the AFCON.

He was later contracted to work with the team under CK Akonnor during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in November last year.
