2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Sheriff Tiraspol midfielder Edmund Addo elated over maiden Ghana call-up

Published on: 02 November 2021

Midfielder Edmund Addo is over the moon after earning his maiden invitation to the Black Stars for the upcoming doubleheader in 2022 World Cup qualifications this month.

The Sheriff Tiraspol midfielder has expressed his delight for getting the chance to represent Ghana for the first time against Ethiopia and South Africa.

The Black Stars will take on the Walia Ibex and Bafana Bafana on 11 November in Johannesburg and on 14 November in Cape Coast.

The 21-year-old has been in a splendid form this season for the Moldovan giants Sherrif in the UEFA Champions League with his consistent performances.

Addo was sent an invite by Ghana Football Association’s deputy secretary and he has acknowledged receipt.

Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac was in Milan a fortnight ago to meet the 21-year-old when his side played Inter Milan in the Champions League.

"Edmund is very happy with the chance offered him by the coach," a source told AshesGyamera.com.

"He has been in a different mood ever since the invitation reached his club and he was notified. It is every player’s dream to represent his country on the international stage and I believe this will help his career.

"Obviously, he will be an instant hit with the Black Stars since he knows how to work under pressure. He is aware of the situation at stake and will rise to the occasion when given the chance against Ethiopia or South Africa next week," the source added.

Ghana’s squad for the upcoming matches will be officially released this week.
