2022 World Cup qualifiers: What Bafana Bafana need against Ghana

Published on: 12 November 2021

South Africa's victory over Zimbabwe keeps them top of Group G, and three points ahead of the Black Stars of Ghana before the final showdown in Cape Coast on Sunday.

The two have been neck-to-neck in the qualifiers and Ghana's draw against Ethiopia seem to have given the South Africans the advantage.

However, their 1-0 victory over the Warriors means the game between South Africa and Ghana will decide the group winner.

South Africa needs just a point against the Black Stars to qualify from Group G, but judging by recent history in the qualifiers between the two in Ghana, the Black Stars have a slight advantage.

Ghana needs to beat South Africa and anything else will mean the Bafana Bafana end up group winner.

South Africa defeated Ghana 1-0 in Johannesburg but with the goal difference rule coming first, it means the Black Stars can still go through with a 1-0 win. Both countries have scored six goals each in the qualifiers and the nation with the most goals progresses.
