2024/25 Ghana Premier League: Kotoko retake top spot on league table as Gold Stars slip against Hearts

Published on: 25 March 2025

Asante Kotoko are back on top of the Ghana Premier League table at the end of matchday 23.

The Porcupine Warriors leapfrogged Bibiani Gold Stars to retake the top spot after the former leaders slipped during their much-anticipated encounter against Hearts of Oak.

In the game between Gold Stars and Hearts of Oak over the weekend, the hosts almost ran away with all three points to extend their lead at the top of the table.

However, a late strike from the Phobians forced the match to end in a 1-1 draw as Gold Stars lost two crucial points.

During that matchday, Asante Kotoko secured a 1-0 win against Basake Holy Stars at home. The result propelled the Porcupine Warriors to return to the top of the league standings with 42 points, one more than Gold Stars in second.

The two teams are still joined by Heart of Lions and Hearts of Oak to complete the top four, while Bechem United and Nations FC follow in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Defending champions FC Samartex occupy the 9th position, while Legon Cities FC, Nsoatreman FC, and Accra Lions are in the relegation zone.

However, it is important to note that Nsoatreman FC have withdrawn from the ongoing league campaign.
