The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League kicked off with a tense goalless encounter between Dreams FC and defending champions FC Samartex at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances in a game that became increasingly physical.
Despite the intensity, the home side, Dreams FC, received a series of yellow cards, with midfielder Collins Boah being the most notable offender. Boah, who had already been booked earlier, received a second yellow card in the 70th minute, reducing Dreams FC to 10 men.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the home side defended resolutely, frustrating Samartex, who dominated possession but failed to capitalise on their opportunities.
The Timber Giants were heavy favourites coming into the match after their impressive run in the CAF Champions League, where they recently eliminated Victoria United. However, they couldn't find the breakthrough as Dreams FC held firm to secure a hard-earned point.
Dreams FC will now prepare to face newly promoted Holy Stars in their next game, while FC Samartex will host Bibiani Gold Stars as they seek their first win of the season.
