Ghana are facing a first-round elimination at the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup after Thursday’s 4-1 defeat to Japan in Group E.
The Black Princesses conceded two goals in the last two minutes of regulation time.
Japan took the lead in the 45th minute through Chinari Sasai and Manaka Matsukubo added the second in injury time before the halftime whistle.
Five minutes after recess, Miku Hayama made it three-nil but captain Stella Nyamekye pulled one back on 83 minutes.
In the 90th minute, Miyu Matsunaga scored again to restore Japan’s three-goal lead.
Ghana's last match is against New Zealand and they will hope to secure a win which could help them qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
