2025 AFCON qualifiers: Elfsborg defender Terry Yegbe earns first Black Stars call-up for Angola, Niger games

Published on: 11 November 2024

Elfsborg defender Terry Yegbe has earned his first call-up to the Black Stars for the final two matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The 23-year-old makes a late entry into the squad after coach Otto Addo named his team for the upcoming fixtures against Angola and Niger.

According to local media reports, Yegbe is currently en route to Ghana after leaving Sweden, alongside his Elfsborg teammate Michael Baidoo, who has also been called up for the two matches.

Yegbe has been a key figure in Elfsborg’s campaign this season, playing an instrumental role in both the Swedish Allsvenskan and UEFA Europa League.

He has helped the club achieve six clean sheets in the domestic league, starting in all 22 of their matches, scoring three goals, and providing one assist.

In Europe, Yegbe has featured in all four of Elfsborg's Europa League games this season, including a memorable clean sheet in their 1-0 win over AS Roma.

This marks Yegbe's first senior national team call-up, following his previous involvement with the Black Meteors during the 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

Ghana will face Angola away on November 15, before hosting Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18.
