2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Ghana’s poor performance against Sudan not surprising – Kofi Manu

Published on: 29 October 2024

Experienced football administrator Kofi Manu has added his voice to the Black Stars recent poor performance against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The West African powerhouse fell short to Sudan in the double-header and are on the verge of failing to qualify for the CAF’s biggest tournament for the first time since 2004.

Ghana played out a 0-0 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 2-0 defeat to their opponent at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya.

"The poor performance by Black Star didn't surprise me. I really did expect it. How can you expect to get good results if you don't do the correct things? You can't do the same thing and hope for better results” he said.

“For a very long time, I have been a football administrator and a fan, I haven't seen such an awful performance from the Black Stars” he added.

The Black Stars will return to action to face Angola and Niger in the final group F games next month (November).

Ghana now needs to secure wins against already-qualified Angola and Niger, while hoping that Sudan falters against these same opponents, to keep their chances alive for next year’s tournament in Morocco.
