Ghana head coach Otto Addo believes Mohammed Kudus’ red card against Tottenham was a result of frustration from Ghana’s disappointing AFCON qualifiers against Sudan in October.
The 24-year-old was sent off for violent conduct in West Ham’s 4-1 defeat at Spurs on October 19, following a VAR review.
The suspension means, in addition to the games against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Everton that Kudus has already missed, he will also be unavailable for West Ham’s upcoming fixtures against Newcastle United (November 25), and Arsenal (November 30).
Kudus, who captained Ghana in the 0-0 draw and 2-0 loss to Sudan, attributed his actions to social media abuse after the qualifiers.
“They showed extra effort in their clubs. They regret it, and you could see that maybe their emotions were still high. They feel for the nations.
“I don't know why exactly Kudus got a red card, but maybe it was also because he was disappointed with the last games we had with the national team.
“This is the only way they can show it: through their performance.”
The Black Stars will opened camp on Monday evening in Accra for the two games.
The match against Angola will take place on Friday, November 15, in Luanda, before the Black Stars wrap up the qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium against Niger on Monday, November 18.
Ghana currently sits third in Group F with just two points from four games, and qualification is no longer in their hands.
The Black Stars must win their remaining matches and hope that Sudan, who have seven points, lose both of theirs in order to qualify.
