The Trivia Tuesday is back: 5 questions about Atalanta to test Nerazzurri supporters’ knowledge.

1) When was the stadium of Bergamo opened?

1928

After playing in the via Maglio del Lotto facility and at the Campo della Clementina, Atalanta found their home in 1928 when the new stadium was built, which cost 3,5 million Lire. It was initially named after Mario Brumana, the stadium hadn’t got the two stands (curve), but the facility had an athletics track and other sports facilities (among which a swimming pool).  At the official opening, the stadium hosted 14.000 people for the game against Genova’s “La Dominante”.

2) Atalanta-Inter of the 1984/85 season has been the match with the highest attendance: how many people attended the game at the Stadium?

43.426 people

It was the 16th of September in 1984 and Atalanta, after winning the Serie B league in the previous season, came back to the first division. Carlo Osti equalised after Muraro’s goal and it ended 1-1 against Inter, in a match that marked Atalanta’s history. It was, in fact, the match with the highest attendance among those played at the “Atleti Azzurri d’Italia”, but it’s been a few weeks that this isn’t a record anymore, as the home match with the highest attendance was Atalanta-Valencia, the Champions League Round of 16 1st leg, played on the 19th of February 2020: San Siro hosted 45.792 people!

3) When, under the chairmanship of the Percassi’s, did Atalanta officially become the owner of the stadium of Bergamo?

17 October 2017

Right on the day of their 110th birthday, Atalanta officially became the owner of the stadium in Bergamo, which was purchased from the city of Bergamo through “Stadio Atalanta Srl”.

4) Which was the last game played before the renovation works of the new Curva Nord Pisani?

Atalanta-Udinese, 29 April 2019

The project of the Gewiss Stadium renovation started on the 6th of May 2019, when the Curva Nord Pisani was demolished. The last time the Curva Nord hosted Atalanta fans was on Monday, 29th April 2019, for Atalanta-Udinese, Serie A TIM matchday 34. The Nerazzurri got an extremely important win thanks to De Roon’s and PaÅ¡alić’s goals, before celebrating with the tifosi in front of the old terrace for the last time.

5) What was it called before “Gewiss Stadium”?

Atleti Azzurri d’Italia Stadium

On the 1st July 2019, the Stadium in Bergamo became the Gewiss Stadium. This name substituted the previous one (Atleti Azzurri d’Italia) which had been chosen by the city council of Bergamo in 1994.
