Ghana legend Abedi Pele believes his son, Andre's, unrelenting effort is beginning to yield dividends.

The 22-year-old Olympique Marseille star was named the BBC African Footballer of the Year last week Friday.

He is also on the shortlist of players for the Caf African Player of the Year which will be announced on Thursday.

Andre has kept a constant pace of improved form for Marseille scoring nine goals in all competitions this season.

He has not looked back since captaining Ghana to win a historic Fifa Under20 World Cup in 2009.

Abedi Pele says his son's determination and hard work is pushing him up the ladder.

"Things are not happening on a silver platter. It is all hard work and commitment that is pushing him up," he told the BBC
