Abedi tips Ghana for Nations Cup title

Ghana legend Abedi Ayew Pele says the Black Stars can win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars are desperately seeking to end a 30-year wait for the title after finishing second in last year's tournament in Angola.

Coach Goran Stevanovic has improved the squad as they only need a draw against Sudan in Khartoum next month to secure their place in the tournament.

But Abedi Pele, a member of the squad that won Ghana's last continental title in 1982, says the young squad dominated by players from the 2009 U-20 World Cup winning squad has the capability of winning the title.

“We have a team of young players that can go there and deliver the goods," the three-time African Player of the Year said.

''But, we must also bear in mind that, all those countries which will qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations are very good.

"We must respect them, so that we can go in with some courage and determination to win the trophy.”

Ghana have won the Africa Cup of Nations title four times but are yet to lift the trophy since the tournament in Libya in 1982.

In 1992 and 2010 they reached the final but failed to list the trophy.
