Abeyie's Malaga deal delays because of salary

Spanish side Malaga’s quest to complete the deal for Ghana winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie has been delayed because of a stalemate over his salary.

The ex-Arsenal player, who arrived in Spain on Wednesday, was expected to seal a three-year contract on Thursday but they could not agree on his wages.

It is now being suggested that the Qatar-based player could be loaned for one season before a permanent deal is agreed.

Some reports from Spain even suggest that he has passed his medical awaiting for a deal to be reached on what he will earn.

But Abeyie agent Leon Callendar says he is hopeful deal could be reached before the team departs to Germany early next week for pre-season training.

"We are very close to closing the deal. Right now what remains is for the club to specify the salary of the player, " the British agent said.

"The goal is to close the deal before the team travels to Germany," said Callender.

Abeyie’s move to Spain has shocked the football world because he was expected to return to Qatari side Al Sadd after joining them months before the World Cup.

But after failing to impress the Qataris after just two matches they were eager to release him to Malaga on the cheap.

The move to Spain will allow the winger to return to the limelight as he has recently been on the fringes of the Black Stars starting team.

But the number of clubs he has played for keeps on growing, having already played in England, Holland, Russia, Spain and Qatar.

He has already played for Ajax, Arsenal, Cardiff, Birmingham, Spartak Moscow and Portsmouth.

Abeyie knows Spanish football very well having played for Celta Vigo in the 2007-08 season.
