Abukari Damba: Benjamin Asare has deficiencies but will improve with time

Published on: 26 March 2025

Former Ghana goalkeeper Abukari Damba believes Black Stars shot-stopper Benjamin Asare will continue to develop despite some areas that need improvement.

Asare has been in impressive form, keeping two clean sheets in Ghana’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

His performances have earned him praise from Coach Otto Addo, who now considers him the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Despite his strong start, Damba insists there is room for growth, particularly in ball distribution.

However, he remains confident that with more international experience, Asare will refine his skills and become a more complete goalkeeper.

“Benjamin Asare has a few deficiencies, but game after game, he’ll get better. Technically, he’ll improve with his feet,” Damba said on Sporty FM.

Asare has kept 12 clean sheets in 19 games for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League this season and added two more during the international break, further boosting his confidence.
