Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng was absent from AC Milan's team Bologna sneaked 1-0 past the Serie A giants on Wednesday at the San Siro with the his compatriot Godfred Donsah on the bench of the visitors.

Boateng signed a six-month deal with the club on Monday and was expected to be used in the match but was completely left out as they were stunned by the visitors.

In a captivating game the Rossoblu scored late in the 82nd minute through Emanuele Giaccherini despite Milan’s domination.

The first half proved to be goalless yet rather entertaining. Milan failed to take the lead despite having the lion share of shots, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men missing an opportunity to go ahead in the 26th minute as M’Baye Niang’s effort from inside the box was parried by Bologna stopper Antonio Mirante.

The best chance of the first half fell to the 26-year-old as he saw an effort from close range tipped over the bar superbly by Mirante, after some impressive work from Keisuke Honda. Mirante came to Bologna’s rescue again when denying Carlos Bacca’s controlled effort late in the first-half.

Roberto Donadoni’s men did well to swing the pendulum the other way, but in the 50th minute a Giaccherini cross from the edge of the box failed to reach Saphir Taider, who couldn’t turn home a golden opportunity.

Later in the game, Bologna threw bodies on the line to block consecutive efforts from Niang and Honda to make sure that the score stayed level. In the 77th minute, substitute Alessio Cerci failed to put away an opportunity after going past the goalkeeper as Bologna had enough men behind to snuff out the danger.

The Rossoblu broke on the right flank with Anthony Mounier, the 28-year-old’s lovely cross found former Juventus man Giaccherini free on the far post to place a composed effort in the back of the net.

Bologna had the chance to kill the game off deep into stoppage time, but a terrific stop from Milan’s 16-year-old stopper Donnarumma kept the score at 1-0.

The win saw Bologna keep pace with 14th placed Torino, who have two games in hand, while Milan slide to seventh, below Sassuolo.
