AC Milan 1-1 Udinese: Zebrette withstand Rossoneri bombardment

Published on: 07 February 2016

AC Milan came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Udinese at the Stadio San Siro in their Sunday afternoon Serie A tie.

Former Milan defender Pablo Armero gave Udinese the lead but M’Baye Niang levelled the score during a match where the Rossoneri truly dominated.

The home side were out of the traps early on, a cross from Luca Antonelli went dangerously across the face of goal; striker Niang unable to make contact. Pablo Armero, who was back at the San Siro after a brief spell with the Rossoneri, gave the visiting side the lead. A double save from Gianluigi Donnarumma but couldn’t prevent the Colombian bundling it over the line.

Milan then had the ball in the back of the net, but Carlos Bacca had strayed offside when Antonelli headed it back across the face of goal. Donnarumma came to the rescue when Antonelli was intercepted by Matos, the shot from Francesco Lodi beaten out by the young goalkeeper. On the counter the Rossoneri levelled. A quick charge from Bacca released Niang who made no mistake having left the lagging defenders behind.

Bacca then missed a golden opportunity, sending his header straight at Orestis Karnezis from close range. Andrea Bertolacci then thought he’d scored, his shot crashing against the crossbar and in off the back of Karnezis. However, goal-line technology showed the ball hadn’t crossed the line. The visitors survived a late penalty appeal when substitute Mario Balotelli looked to be dragged down in the box, but replays showed the striker may have been the transgressor.

Milan fail to gain more ground on their rivals who have also dropped points, moving onto 40 points. Udinese move onto 27 points in their effort to avoid relegation.
