AC Milan 2-0 Fiorentina: Strikes from Bacca and Boateng seal Rossoneri win

AC Milan beat Fiorentina 2-0 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday evening in Serie A, sending the Rossoneri up to sixth.

Carlos Bacca bagged the game’s opening goal with a curled strike from the edge of the box after just four minutes before Kevin-Prince Boateng rounded off the win.

In the first significant attack of the match, Bacca found space to curl home a wonderful effort, allowing some early relief for coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The tempo of the occasion continued at a brisk pace, with Federico Bernardeschi electing to shoot despite teammate Josip Ilicic in a better placed position on the edge of the box.

As the game crossed over the half-hour mark, the midfield zone turned into a congestion of players battling for the ball, with only long over-the-top passes the key to unlocking one of the defences on show.

Fiorentina’s only outlet proved to be the leggy runs coming from the ever-present Marcos Alonso, but his dangerous cross was dealt with, sending the Rossoneri into half-time a goal up.

Nikola Kalinic was sent in on goal ten minutes in the second period, but the forward dragged his shot disappointingly wide to let Milan off the hook.

After the Croatian headed over another chance, Mihajlovic’s side were next in line for an opportunity: the full-back Luca Antonelli only able to fire straight at Ciprian Tatarusanu however.

M’Baye Niang struck the post from a close range cross-come-shot after the hour, with little openings falling Fiorentina’s way even though Giuseppe Rossi was introduced, leaving Borja Valero to slam a long-range shot wide of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal.

It was ‘Goodnight sweet Kevin-Prince’ in the closing moments when the former Schalke man Boateng rounded Tatarusanu to seal the victory and give Fiorentina a second straight loss.
