AC Milan agree terms to sign Sven Botman

AC Milan have agreed terms to sign LOSC Lille defender Sven Botman, having held positive talks in the last week, 90min understands.

As previously reported, Milan had been in negotiations with Lille regarding a double deal for Botman and midfielder Renato Sanches, and the Rossoneri now believe they have secured the services of the centre-back.

Key to getting the deal across the line has been Paolo Maldini, with the club's technical director selling Botman on their sporting project.

Milan are enjoying a fantastic season under Stefano Pioli and currently sit top of Serie A with just seven games left to play. Botman is likely to form a formidable defensive partnership with England's Fikayo Tomori next season as the club continue to go from strength to strength with Pioli at the helm.

The Dutchman had previously been a January target for Newcastle, with the Magpies eventually settling for Brighton's Dan Burn when negotiations were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, 90min have been told that talks are still ongoing regarding a deal for Sanches. Personal terms are the stumbling block at the moment, but Milan remain confident that they can secure the midfielder before the summer transfer window.

The duo would cost the club a combined £40m, with Sanches accounting for £15m and Botman making up the other £25m.

As for other incomings at San Siro, 90min understand that Divock Origi is close to joining the Rossoneri on a free transfer at the end of the 2021/22 season. The forward is set to leave Liverpool having failed to agree terms on a new contract.
