AC Milan look to raid Spanish La Liga for defender

AC Milan could bring in Alvaro Arbeloa or Shkodran Mustafi this summer to partner Alessio Romagnoli in defence for the upcoming season.

The Rossoneri are on the hunt for another central defender and are remaining hopeful in their main target, 25-year-old Villarreal man Mateo Musacchio.

Should a deal for the Argentine international collapse, however, fichajes.net reports that Milan will stay searching in Spain and potentially bid for current 33-year-old free agent and former Real Madrid man Arbeloa.

The Spaniard joined Los Blancos in 2009 from Liverpool and won the Champions league twice with them, as well as a La Liga title in 2012, but only appeared in nine goals overall during last season and he subsequently announced his departure from the club.

If Arbeloa doesn’t join the Diavolo, the other alternative for Vincenzo Montella is German defender Mustafi, who was part of Die Mannschaft’s World Cup winning squad two years ago in Brazil and also their side at Euro 2016.

He also plays in Spain but for last year’s 12th placed side Valencia, but Mustafi is the least likely to move to Italy as his current employers do not seem keen on letting him go and have a high release clause of €50 million.
