AC Milan striker Higuain on bench for Supercoppa Italiana amidst Chelsea interest

AC Milan are set to turn to Patrick Cutrone up front when they take on Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana on Wednesday, after Chelsea target Gonzalo Higuain reportedly came down with illness.

The Serie A rivals are set to square off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, but much of the focus has been on Higuain, who has endured a tumultuous fortnight ahead of the clash against his former club.

Premier League outfit Chelsea are thought to be keen to sign him and Higuain’s future is far from certain at the Stadio San Siro, with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that he is a late withdrawal from the starting line-up due to fever.

Milan have targeted Genoa hitman Krzysztof Piatek as a potential replacement for the Argentine striker, who would be reunited with ex-Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

Higuain is set to take his place on the bench with Cutrone leading the line, as Milan look to secure a record eighth Supercoppa Italiana triumph.
