Ace journalist Sannie urges Ghana FA to move on Frimpong

Ace Ghanaian football journalist Ibrahim Sannie has asked the Ghana Football Association to move swiftly to get Arsenal midfield youngster Emmanuel Frimpong to play for the Black Stars.

The 18-year-old is on the verge of a major breakthrough with the English giants this season after excelling in the Emirates Cup over the weekend.

Frimpong, who has played for England’s youth teams, was pivotal in the midfield when playing against Clarence Seedorf as Arsenal won the pre-season tournament that had big teams like AC Milan, Celtic and Lyon.

His performance prompted respected coach Arsene Wenger to advise the English FA to act quickly to persuade Arsenal's young midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong to play for England even though the youngster has stated his desire on wearing the Black Stars jersey.

Sannie, an international award winning journalist who works for the BBC, was instrumental in getting Ghana to complete the nationality switch of German-born Kevin Prince Boateng who subsequently excelled at the World Cup.

His investigations at Fifa revealed why Boateng’s nationality switch overly delayed, sparking the Ghana FA to provide the needed documents to complete the switch.

Now the ace journalist says the Ghana FA must act quickly to secure Frimpong’s nationality switch as the player will add to improve the Black Stars.

“I think the Ghana FA should move today to start talking to the players and his parents about playing for the Black Stars immediately,” Sannie said.

“I have watched this player several times and his performance this weekend only confirms what I already knew about him as a very talented player.

“Wenger is a coach with good eye for talented players and if he should come out with statement that England should go for Frimpong for their A team, this should alert the Ghana FA.

"Ghana will lose nothing and stand to gain a lot if his nationality switch is pursued. Even if he is not used in the current Black Stars team Ghana will benefit a lot from him in future. I think he will be beneficial to the team now.

“This is easy for Ghana because the player has openly stated his desire of playing for the Black Stars. He was born in Accra and knows the country well so there should be no delays. There is a real possibility England would cap him so the GFA must move quickly.” The 18-year-old was born in Accra, Ghana but moved to London in 2000 and has represented England at Under-16 and 18 level, but Frimpong indicated he has a desire to represent his birth country few months ago.
