Zamalek SC have taken a lead in the CAF Champions League semi-finals tie after beating Raja Club Athletic in the first leg.

Raja suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of the White Knights on Sunday.

Achraf Bencharki was the difference at the Complexe Sportif Mohamed V in Casablanca as he scored the only goal of the game.

Zamalek survived an early penalty appeal when Soufiane Rahimi was brought in the box by Mahmoud El Wensh and wanted a spot-kick.

The White Knights nudged in front in the 18th minute, with Ahmed Sayed Zizo's cross from the right perfectly flighted to the far post where Bencharki rose well to head into the net.

Soufiane Rahimi came close to getting the equaliser with a header from Fabrice Ngoma's cross that almost crept in as the Moroccan champions Raja fought back in the 42nd minute.

The hosts made several attempts to get the leveller but Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal prevented them with impressive saves.

Zamalek will welcome Raja to the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday 24 October 2020 for the second leg fixture.
