Aduana's Godfred Saka defends lack of good sportsmanship in defeat to Hearts by saying 'Fair Play is not by force'

Aduana Stars full-back Godfred Saka has defended the lack of display of good sportsmanship in their 3-2 defeat to Hearts of Oak on Wednesday – insisting the convention of fair play is not obligatory.

Both sides refused to give the ball back to their opponent on the several occasions it had to be played out for an injured player to be attended to.

The teams were so all too eager to get on with it the heated exchanges – throwing the convention of fair play to the dogs.

Aduana Stars’ right-back Godfred Saka sees nothing wrong in flouting this convention since it is not obligatory.

“Fair play is not by force,” he responded when asked why his team refused to give the ball back to their opponent in the spirit of the convention.

Fair Play forms part of the unwritten laws of the game.

This convention allows a team is possession to deliberately kick the ball out of play in other for any injured player to receive treatment with the expectation of getting the ball back from their opponent deliberately once play resumes.
