Cameroon coach Volker Finke conceded that Cote d’Ivoire made the most of their mistake which resulted in Max Gradel scoring the winning goal in their final 2015 African Cup of Nations, Group D match on Wednesday.

A 1-0 loss to the Elephants signalled the end of the continental competition for Cameroon who finished last in Group D with one two points.

The goal came about after a mistake in defence allowed Gradel to pounce on the ball and fire it home from 30-yards out.

Speaking after the match, Finke admitted his side were to blame for the loss, but his team never gave up trying.

“Côte d’Ivoire took advantage of a small mistake we did in the first half,” said Finke.

“We tried a lot and everyone gave his best, so we cannot say that the team didn’t try until the end.

“In the second half all the players gave a lot, but we didn’t have clear chances to conclude.”
