Ajax coach Erik ten Hag has ruled out the possibility of Mohammed Kudus joining the Ghana squad for the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Despite training with Ajax this week, Kudus was not included in the Ajax squad for Sunday's Eredivisie game against Utrecht.

Ten Hag explained that Kudus was not suitable, adding that it would be strange if Kudus joins Black Stars in Cameroon.

“[Not including him in the Ajax squad against Utrecht] already proves what I’ve said all along. He is not [match] fit and it would be strange if he would join the [AFCON],” the Dutch trainer said.

This comes after several reports earlier this week claimed the Ghana Football Association and Ajax have reached an agreement for the Dutch giants to release Kudus.

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac said before the Gabon 1-1 draw that he expects Kudus in camp soon.

The talented player picked up the injury while playing for the Black Stars in the 2022 World Cup qualifier against South Africa last November.

He has since not played a competitive game for his club and country.

Kudus' persistent injury troubles have become a source of worry for Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag.
