Ghanaian tactician Kwesi Appiah has started the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on a high note, leading Sudan to a crucial 1-0 victory over Niger in their Group F opener.

This result not only secures three important points but also places Sudan at the top of the group, at least temporarily.

The match's only goal came in the 51st minute, courtesy of Abobaker Mamoun Eisa at the Juba Stadium in South Sudan, reflecting the strategic efficiency Appiah has brought to the team.

Appiah, the former coach of Ghana's national team, the Black Stars, took charge of Sudan with the clear objective of guiding them to the AFCON finals in Morocco.

His tenure has been marked by a strong unbeaten streak in competitive matches, which includes four wins and a draw in his last five games.

This impressive record also extends to World Cup qualifiers, highlighting his ability to get the best out of his players in crucial encounters.

The victory over Niger not only boosts Sudan's chances of qualifying but also sets the stage for a much-anticipated clash against Ghana, Appiah’s former team.

Before that, Sudan will face Angola in their second qualifier, where Appiah will aim to continue his unbeaten run and strengthen Sudan's position in the group.
