AFCON U-23 qualifier: Player Ratings- Black Meteors 4-0 Gabon

Published on: 23 March 2019

Ghana took first leg advantage after beating Gabon 4-0 on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium in their CAF U23 Cup of Nations penultimate qualifying round.

Slovakia-based Osman Bukari was prolific with a double but it was Segunda Division striker Kwabena Owusu who stole the show and had to open the scoring account.

Substitute Bernard Tekpetey who replaced Benjamin Tetteh before the start of the stanza, drilled home the second goal.

GHANASoccernet.com brings you the player rating for the thumping win over Gabon.

Kwame Baah 7/10- Made some brilliant saves and kept Ghana in the game before the opener in the 14th minute after stopping a Gabonese striker on a one on one situation.

Kingsley Fobi 5/10- Had a poor first half. Could not match the pace of the Gabonese left wingers but got into his strides in the second half. Was not threatful for Ghana going forward.

Gideon Mensah 7.5/10- Decent performance from the Stum Graz left back. Had control and composure in the game, linking up well with wingers Kwabena Owusu and Joseph Painstil.

Nuhu Musah 6.5/10- Jittery on a couple of occasions. Slipped in the early minutes and nearly cost Ghana conceding before finding the opener. The former WAFA defender had a glorious opportunity to double Ghana's lead but flapped his chances.

Fuseini Zakaria 6.5/10 - Faced similar problems like central defensive partner Musah Nuhu. Communication between him and Musah was non existent but forced out a clean sheet.

Simon Zibo- 7/10- Remarkable performance from the Liberty Professionals lad. Showed no signs of lack of football in Ghana. Solid in the heart of midfielder.

Osman Bukari 8/10- Man of the Match. Scored a brace and created the opener for Kwabena Owusu.

Yaw Yeboah 6/10- A lot was expected from the captain of the team but was very quite in the first half. Got in the groove in the second half and led by example.

Kwabena Owusu 7.5/10 - Great performance from the Salamanca forward. Terrifying on the flanks. The defence of Gabon could not contain him.

Benjamin Tetteh 5/10 - Could not just get into the game. Had to be subbed at the break for Bernard Tekpetey.

Joseph Painstil 6.5/10 - Entertained the fans with his trickery but was largely ineffective. The Genk forward had to be replaced by Isaac Twum.

Substitutes

Bernard Tekpetey 7/10 - Made an instant impact after coming on for Benjamin Tetteh. Slotting home for Ghana's second just a minute into the game.

Isaac Twum 5/10- Game was virtually won before he came on. Did not make any difference.
