Aguero can be Man City version of Messi, Ronaldo - Juventus keeper Buffon

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero can be as influential as Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo during the knockout stages of this season's Champions League.

The Bianconeri will look to claim top spot in Group D when they take on City in Turin on Wednesday.

Aguero has missed much of the season to date due to injury, but Buffon believes the Argentine is still capable of exerting a major influence on the rest City's 2015/16 Champions League campaign.

"When you get to the knockout stages, the best teams look to their stand-out player for a moment of brilliance," Buffon said.

"So many times we have seen (Lionel) Messi do it for Barcelona or (Cristiano) Ronaldo do it for Real Madrid. Aguero can be that player for Manchester City.

"One player cannot win you the Champions League, but special players win you games, and winning games wins you competitions. Sergio Aguero is that special player for them.

"There is no denying that they look like a different team when he is playing."
