Aguero, Silva, Gundogan and Jesus all could have joined Real Madrid

Up to five Manchester City players came close to signing for Real Madrid in the past.

Los Blancos will host Pep Guardiola's team for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday night.

David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Ilkay Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker will step on the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu pitch, yet all five once had the chance to join the Spanish giants and don Real Madrid's famous shirt.

David Silva

He has been linked several times with Los Blancos, including when he was 12 years old and had a trial with the youth team.

When Silva plied his trade at Valencia, Real Madrid expressed their interest in the Spanish midfielder but were not willing to meet Los Che's financial demands.

Silva ended up at Manchester City and there were no more talks about a potential move to Real Madrid.

Sergio Aguero

Before joining Atletico Madrid in 2006/7, he had been offered to Real Madrid, who turned him down due to his young age.

He informed Los Rojiblancos that he wanted to leave in 2011 and Los Blancos joined the race to sign him.

However, Real Madrid were not keen to pay his release clause and Atletico didn't want to negotiate his departure, so the Argentine embarked on the plane to Manchester.

Ilkay Gundogan

The Germany international had agreed terms with Real Madrid back in 2013, with Nuri Sahin set to be used as makeweight for his transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

The deal fell through and, although Los Blancos continued tracking him, injuries prevented them from making a move for Gundogan.

Gabriel Jesus

In July 2016, Palmeiras and Real Madrid had almost reached a deal for the promising Brazilian.

However, after a call from Pep Guardiola, Jesus decided to accept Manchester City's offer and move to England in exchange for 34 million euros.

In June 2018 he wanted to depart the Premier League side and join Real Madrid, but his wish didn't come to fruition.

Kyle Walker

Real Madrid tried to sign him in 2013/14 from Tottenham Hotspur, but they couldn't reach an agreement with the English club's chairman, Daniel Levy, who is known for his tough negotiation skills.

Walker signed for the Sky Blues in 2017 and won two league titles in a row under Guardiola.
