Udinese midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu claims he will be surprised Andre Ayew fails to win the 2011 African Footballer Year.

The 22-year-old is in contention for the prestigious individual award but will vie for the coveted crown with Yahaya Toure and Seydou Keita.

"I believe Dede should win the award if you take a critical look at what he has done over the past few years,'' Badu said.

"Look at how he even played at the World Cup and what he’s been doing with Marseille gives me hope that he’ll win the award.

''To be honest I will surprise if he doesn't win. But you it's a competition and so anything can happen."

Ayew's biggest threat is Manchester City’s Yaya Toure who helped his club win the English FA Cup and also played a key role in Ivory Coast 100% winning record in the Nations Cup qualifiers.

But the progression of the Marseille winger has been hugely amazing for both club and country.

He helped Olympic Marseille win the French Super Cup, helped them to advance to the knockout phase of the Uefa Champions League with a comeback victory against German giants Borussia Dortmund.

He also played a key role in Ghana's qualification to Africa's flagship tournament next month.
