Ahmed Awua: "I'm more refined now after moving to Parma"

Parma U19 midfielder Ahmed Awua has been sharing his experience and lessons learnt since moving to the club last year.

The 18 year-old from Drobo has scored three goals with two assists to his credit in 17 league matches in Italy's Primavera 2 division.

Awua played for Adinkrah Stars in the former Brong Ahafo region before moving to Italy.

He has been speaking to footballer Richard Gyasi on a wide range of issues.

How would you describe your performance this season prior to the suspension of the league?

It's has been an awesome season for me because I was not expecting something like this in the beginning

Something like what?

We're trained on how to keep possession because it is the key to creating goal scoring opportunity and displaying great superiority against opponents

I have improved a lot in many ways. How to position myself, how to control the game under pressure and also not under pressure. How to win balls and when to go for tackle. Technically,  I'm more refined now after moving to Parma.

Which was your most enjoyable match?

Virtus Entella. We won by three goals to one. Ordinarily I expect to play further forward to contribute in attack. But I started the game as the holding midfielder with the responsibility to protect the back four.

While operating from that position, I kept surging forward with the ball, creating open spaces and made a few attempts at goal. Twenty minutes to the end of the game, my coach asked me to move into an attacking midfield role.

Few minutes after that I pounced on a loose ball and struck it into the far corner. It wasn't just the fact that I got on the score-sheet, it was an overall dominant team performance.

What has been your most difficult game?

Against AC Milan. Not a match I would like to talk much about because the results was embarrassing. We lost by four goals to nil. Milan were the better side on the day. But we took it in our stride as one of the few bumps on the road

Parma are yet to record victory in 2020. Why has the team underperformed in the second half of the season?

I don't know why but its normal because it happens to all the big clubs in the world. In the beginning you will be doing well but when it get to the middle of the league things go south, but I'm confident that results will improve when the league resumes.
