Akonnor promises different approach against Qatar
Charles 'CK' Akonnor's first competitive games in charge of Ghana was scheduled to be AFCON qualifiers in March

Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor has promised a different approach in the international friendly against Qatar on Monday.

This comes after the Black Stars suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat against Mali last Friday.

It was Akonnor first match and the performance on the night was poor. The Black Stars couldn’t match the Malians in every aspect and deservedly lost.

Akonnor is thus under pressure going into the clash against Asian champions. He needs to assure Ghanaians that he is the right man for the job.

"The approach is going to be different. First of all, against Mali, we were not compact and I am looking forward to improving in that area to be compact and of course how we approach, how we attack," Akonnor said in a pre-match interview.

How we attack in the way of offensive play was not effective and we need to improve in that area and of course, defensively we allowed too many chances to the opponent.

We worked on it yesterday, we have discussed it, today we going to continue and hopefully tomorrow you will see a lot of improvement. I am very, very positive about that and I know that we will improve in that area."

Akonnor took over from Kwesi Appiah in January this year.
