Akunnor needs time at Hearts- JE Sarpong

Liberty Professionals coach JE Sarpong believes new Hearts coach CK Akunnor needs to be given time to implement changes at the club.

Akunnor marked his debut with a 1-0 defeat to the Sarpong's charges last Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.

The ex-Black Stars captain is beginning to feel the pressure as the Phobians have slipped to fourth and ten points behind leaders Asante Kotoko.

But Sarpong, who once coached Hearts of Oak, is urging the supporters to exercise restrained as he re-build the team into a formidable side.

''I have to doff my hat off to the Hearts of Oak new coach. It is baptism of fire now that he’s in the job," Sarpong said.

''Today you’re praised and tomorrow you’re a villain.

''But he is a young coach. You know when I heard on the radio that people were comparing myself and him, I laughed because when I was coaching, he was playing football.

''He's my grand-son. Hearts supporters should have patience for the boy. Football is not run over night.

''He's a young coach coming up and so they should rather encourage him to be able to do what they want him to do.''
