Ghana defender Alexander Djiku wants to see out the remainder of his contract at French side Strasbourg amid multiple European club interest.

The 28-year-old featured as his side lost 2-1 at home to Monaco in the opening match of the 2022-23 season.

Monaco gave themselves a confidence boost ahead of next week's crucial UEFA Champions League play-off second leg at PSV Eindhoven with a battling win in Alsace against a Strasbourg side tipped as outside bets for a top-three finish this term.

Djiku's future has been hugely speculated all summer as he nears exit from the club.

But the centre-back has remained a top professional, turning out at the team's training despite the uncertainty surrounding his future.

After seeing his move to German Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim collapsed due to misunderstanding over his agent's commission, the Ghana star has confirmed his desire to remain at with Strasbourg.

"I am in Strasbourg, I am very well. I have one year left on my contract and I will do everything to stay here.." Djiku assured after the side's defeat to Monaco.

After an impressive season in which he appeared 31 times in the league as Julien Stéphan's men finished sixth in Ligue 1, the 27-year-old has attracted interest from clubs across Europe this summer, including Sevilla and Rennes.

His overhead kick goal against AS Monaco was voted the best goal in the month of March and was also voted Strasbourg's best goal of the season.

He was voted Ghanaian Footballer of the year at the recently held Ghana Football Awards following an outstanding season in the Ligue 1 for Strasbourg.
