Algeria international Yacine Brahimi has won the Liga BBVA Best African Player award at the LFP Awards for the 2013-14 season in La Liga.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who joined Portuguese side FC Porto in July, played the 2013-14 season at Spanish club Granada, featuring in 35 out of the 38 La Liga games and scoring three times and providing four assists.

He scored his most memorable goal of the season against Barcelona last April when the Nazaries stunned Barça 1-0.

His dribbling skills and pace have been commended by many European and African coaches.

Runners up are Morocco’s Youssef El Arabi also of Granada, who ended last year’s campaign with 12 goals in 36 games, and Stephane M’Bia of Cameroon, who made 19 appearances and scored 3 goals with Sevilla.

Born in France to Algerian parents, Brahimi began his international career playing for French youth squads, before switching allegiance to play for Algeria at senior level.

He was member of Algerian squad at the 2014 World Cup, scoring one goal in the Fennec Foxes’ 4-2 win over South Korea in the group stage.
