Alisson's injury concerns Klopp

Published on: 10 August 2019

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Alisson will miss Liverpool's Super Cup clash with Chelsea after the goalkeeper sustained a calf injury against Norwich City.

The shot-stopper was replaced by Adrian in the closing stages of the first half on Friday as the Reds eased to a 4-1 win over the Canaries.

Alisson will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury in the next few days but Klopp has confirmed that the Brazilian will not be involved in Wednesday's match in Istanbul.

He said: "There is actually nothing bad to say about the game apart from Ali's injury. That is, of course, not good for us, but we have to see how serious it is and then we have to deal with it.

"It's the calf and that's it. He couldn't carry on, that's not a good sign. We have to see.

"Wednesday [in the Super Cup], he will not play - with all my experience, I can say that already. He is injured, for sure, so we have to see how much."

Adrian only moved to Anfield on Monday following Simon Mignolet's departure but Klopp has faith in the former West Ham United goalkeeper, adding: "He is a very confident guy and he came in and I don't think he wanted to sit only on the bench for the next couple of years. He made himself ready."

Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to be on the bench in midweek as Adrian's understudy having recently returned to training following a broken wrist.

Liverpool are 4/11 to lift the Super Cup trophy while Chelsea can be backed at 11/5.
