Zarqa: Bahrain opened their West Asian Football Federation U-15 Boys Championship 2019 with a 1-1 draw with Syria on Wednesday, giving themselves a great chance of advancing to the next stage as the top placed team from Group A.

Syria, who defeated Lebanon 1-0 in their opening match on Monday, took the lead in the 21st minute through a long range effort by Mohammed Al Serkabyy.

Bahrain, however, equalised through Sayed Al Musawi and now have to defeat Lebanon by two clear goals on Friday to seal top spot, which will mean playing the top placed sides from Groups B and C in the next stage.

In Group B, Oman were denied the three points in the final seconds of their match against Palestine, with Bahaa Awaysa scoring the equaliser five minutes into added time in the 1-1 draw.

Oman, defeated 2-0 by hosts Jordan in their opener on Monday, had taken the lead through Abdelalim Al Rouhi

Palestine will face Jordan on Friday to decide top spot.

Group C action saw Kuwait and Iraq playing to a 0-0 draw.

Kuwait will now aim to defeat Saudi Arabia, who beat Iraq 1-0 on Monday, to seal top spot.

The tournament format will see the top team from each of the three groups squaring off in a second round-robin competition, with the same applying for the second and third-placed teams.
