Ammies handed Leeds tie

Salford City have been handed a mouthwatering first-round tie against Leeds United in the Carabao Cup which will be played in August.

Salford were playing in Northern Premier League Division One North as recently as 2014/15 but will be plying their trade in League Two this term after being promoted four times in the last five seasons.

They beat AFC Fylde at Wembley last month in the National League play-off final after Leyton Orient had secured the one automatic promotion spot.

Salford are co-owned by six former Manchester United players while Leeds were beaten in the Championship play-off semi-finals in May by Derby County.

Elsewhere, Huddersfield Town, who finished at the foot of the Premier League table in 2018/19, host Lincoln City, while AFC Wimbledon face Milton Keynes Dons.

Middlesbrough have been drawn to play League Two side Crewe Alexandra while Slaven Bilic's West Brom team will be involved in an all-Championship tie against Millwall.

Manchester City defeated Chelsea 4-3 on penalties in February to win last season's Carabao Cup after the final had finished goalless after extra time.

Pep Guardiola's team are 4/1 to win the Carabao Cup this season, while Liverpool can be backed at 8/1 and Chelsea at 10/1.
