ANCELOTTI: "WE WEREN'T ABLE TO TAKE OUR CHANCES"

Published on: 23 April 2019

Carlo Ancelotti admitted that his Napoli side needed to take better advantage of their chances as the Azzurri were beaten 2-1 by Atalanta at the Stadio San Paolo on Monday night.

“We played well for the first hour, but we weren’t able to take our chances despite dominating. Atalanta are a great side, but we did well to take control of the game, command the play and create lots of chances. That said, after the goal we could and should have scored more. If you don’t take your chances, you risk being made to pay. We worked very hard for the first hour to deal with their physicality, and we needed to make the most of our play by taking our chances.”

The Azzurri's coach also reflected on a difficult run of form for his side: “The team isn’t playing well at the moment, after an excellent start to the season. We’ve lost something in terms of belief and motivation. We’re second and we need to secure that position and then focus on planning for next year.”

Ancelotti also explained why Lorenzo Insigne didn’t play against Atalanta: “He didn’t play because he’s played three games in a row so I wanted to save him for the matches we have coming up."
