Andre Ayew celebrated his BBC African Player of the Year award by hosting journalists at a classy party on Friday.

It was the 22-year-old's way of saying thank you for the massive support he received during the voting process for the annual gong.

And before his family at the Noble House Restaurant in Accra, the Marseille midfielder expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming backing received throughout his career.

"I would like to thank all of you for coming," he said.

"I would also like to thank everybody who has supported me throughout my career and hopefully next year we'll attain even more success."

The second son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele received the largest chunk of votes to win the award ahead of Cameroonian Samuel Eto’O, Seydou Keita of Mali and the Ivorian duo of Yaya Toure and Gervinho to succeed compatriot Asamoah Gyan who won the award last year.
