Andre Ayew not keen to captain Ghana

Olympique Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew will not reject captaining Ghana one day but says he is not obsessed with having the armband.

The second son of football legend Abedi Pele has been touted as a future Black Stars captain.

His heart-on-the-sleeves inspiration through perspiration for Ghana has made him the fans favourite.

Andre exhibited a lot of that at the 2010 Nations Cup and World Cup finals in Angola and South Africa.

He says he is now pre-occupied with winning more laurels with the four-time continental champions.

"For me personally it is true a lot of people believe that one day I will captain Ghana but that is not my main aim. It is to win trophies," the 20-year told Oti Adjei report.

"We are Ghana and need to win trophies. Nobody remembers we were in the final of the 2010 Nations Cup and it hurts me," he added.

Andre gave his leadership credentials a boost by leading Ghana to become the first African country to win the Fifa Under-20 World Cup.

"After captaining the Under-20 side to Africa and the World Cup it will be a dream for me to captain the Black Stars. It's a dream that if God wants will come true.

"It's not something that I want at all cost. I want to win trophies with Ghana; that is the most important thing.

"Whether as captain or not captain I want trophies. Since 1982 Ghana has not won anything and that is my goal. With the young squad that has won so much I think we can do it."
