Andre Ayew targets more Marseille goals

Olympique Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew has spoken to desire to compete for the club's top scorer slot this season to aid their title defence campaign.

The 20-year-old is Marseille's leading goal scorer with three goals from 9 matches and has hinted at improving on that.

"I know everyone would love to be in my position, but I would love to play in the middle. At the moment my chance is to play on the wing and I want to take my chance. I’m trying to do what any winger would do, try and get forward, try and get crosses in and also try and score," Ayew told Ligue1.com

Ayew wants to keep his focus and help the champions grind out the results despite being fielded as a make-shift left-winger.

"Well, I think it’s important first of all that you understand that I’m not a winger. I prefer to play in the middle of the park. At Marseille this season, I had the chance to play on the wing so I give my best and try to help the team because the most important thing for me is to be out there on the pitch and fight for the Marseille colours!," he said

"I'm learning a lot from my teammates and they’re really helping me improve my game on the wing. So yes, I am trying to get better as a winger, give more assists, get in front of goal, be more decisive, keep improving basically, but all the while hoping that sooner or later I’ll get back to my position in the middle. "

Ayew has been lethal for Didier Deschamps' side away from home with the statistics of 11 shots and three away goals, compared to three shots and no goals at the Stade Vélodrome.
