Andre Ayew wants Stars to scale Zambia hurdle

Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew says they self-motivated to sneak past Zambia in Wednesday's Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash.

The Black Stars quarter-final hero is backing his teammates to find means of halting the Copper Bullets.

"We are not thinking of the final because Zambia comes before that and we must beat Zambia to play in that," he told KickOffGhana.com.

"At this moment all are thinking of is a very good Zambia team who have won a lot of respect here from the way they have played.

"We know it will be difficult. They have had a day's rest more than us and we have had to travel over but on the field we will make sure it will not matter."

Ghana are yet to convince pundits despite waltzing through to the last four of the tournament.

The Olympique Marseille ace believes they can achieve a second successive appearance at the final if they work their socks off.

"We have to battle and fight for every ball as we have done throughout the tournament.  If we work as hard as have then hopefully we will play in the final."

Ghana beat Zambia 1-0 in the Group stage at the 1992 finals but suffered a similar scoreline defeat in the third-place play-off in South Africa 1996.
